American Feral

An Immersive sculpture and print exhibition

The antonym of domesticated is feral, “existing in a wild or untamed state.” “American Feral” is an exploration of the absurdity of man and the subjection of women. Through suggestive yet subtle symbolism each work of art serves as a criticism of the power and dominance of the patriarchal rule throughout American history. Humorous--yet horrific--satirical imagery tells the story of a foolish, violent, and incongruent culture. Integrating themes of religion, gender bias, control, bodily autonomy, satire, and human behavior, the artist imagines a captivating scene that feels timeless and inescapable.

Processes such as iron casting, steel fabrication, CNC plasma cutting, screen printing, and concrete casting are used to fabricate elaborate conceptual sculptures and installations. Dimensional sculptures constructed of body cast hands and faces, found objects, and sound work in conjunction with screen printed images to synthesize the underlying web of harmful ideologies upheld in our society.

“American Feral” serves as a memento mori to an outdated mindset that continues to influence culture and law. Extreme polarization will continue to cause harm well into our future unless we thoughtfully examine our beliefs. The juxtaposition of  mundane versus irrational behavior is displayed thoughtfully through personal iconography, creating a fever dream-like collection of work.
